Jamaican passport holders enter Peru visa-free, and the flight from Montego Bay is direct, so there is no US transit. Passport valid 6 months past your return to be safe (3 is the minimum). We check it before ticketing.

Peru uses the sol. Cards work in hotels and restaurants; carry soles for taxis, markets and tips. Change US$ there, not J$. Nobody will take J$.
Cooler than home. Lima is grey and mild from May to October and warm from December to March. Pack a light jacket either way.
